Cape Disappointment Camping 2017

We had a fantastic time at Cape Disappointment in 2017. We arrived on Friday evening and had to set up in the dark but everyone was prepared and it went efficiently and smoothly. It was quite a sight to see watching everyone walking around and setting up with their headlamps on.

Breakfast was egg burritos and everyone jumping in, got their fingers covered with eggs and made their egg packets that we boiled and ate.

After breakfast we went to the beach and did a service project to pick up garbage in and around all the driftwood. We were all surprised with how much garbage we collected, even one of the rangers was surprised with how much we picked up. At least we had those cool picker-upper thingys!

We had three Webelos from Pack 526 join us mid day and after lunch we put our knot-tying abilities to the test. The older scouts taught the younger ones how to tie lashings to make a tripod and then the Scouts broke in to four teams and we had A-frame races. We had three races and the team called "Can you repeat the question?" won the race. Check out the winning team's final stretch of the race here: https://youtu.be/E7Fok5rO-s4

Once we were done with the A-frame races we went on a hike to the North Light house. It was raining most the way but we made it there and back. It was a fun hike and round trip was about 5 1/2 miles (a few of us also hiked another half mile up to the Fort Canby battery and back).

For dinner, we did patrol cooking and the same teams from the A-frame Race each made a pot of Chili Mac. It started out a bit chaotic but once they got in to their groove each patrol was successful in making a great dinner! More than a few scouts had five or more helpings! Guess they were hungry from the hike! Who can blame them.

After cracker barrel, we all turned in crashed from such a busy day. Sunday we woke, broke camp, ate and were on the road by 9am.

Troop 525 does a lot of these great outings throughout the year! Come visit us and see what we have going on!
